Girls Golf Overcomes Injuries, Secures 2nd Victory

CA’s girls golf team recorded two wins last week as they looked to defend their state title in October. On a sunny August 29, the team breezed by Bishop Ready with a total score of 154 to 284. Freshman Eva L. led the way with a 37, followed by co-captain Sydney F. and Caroline Z. with 38 apiece. Fellow co-captain, Angela H. shot 41, and Ella T. finished with a 48.

It was the same weather but a different story on August 31. Facing off against CSG, the Vikes also fought off devastating injuries en route to a 3-stroke win of 166 to 169. The injury bug manifested itself through back pains, unknown illnesses, and difficulty breathing as it took out two players and left only four available to play, although in battered condition. The smaller roster meant added pressure on the girls to perform well since they had no one to replace them. Caroline and Angela pulled through with a 37 and 39 respectively, while Sydney and Eva shot 47 and 43. Varsity played the back nine, while JV defeated Bexley in the front nine.

According to senior Angela, it was not a good day for the team. But she isn’t worried.

Their poor performance caused by this unexpected event did not stop them from winning yet another game.

The reigning state champs took a well-deserved break over Labor Day weekend to recover for next week’s contests. They face both Buckeye Valley and Worthington Christian at Blacklick Woods on September 5 and 7 respectively. Afterwards they take on the Bloom Carroll invitational on September 9 at Pinehill.
