Baseball Pushes Forward in Postseason

Boys baseball hosted Fairbanks for its first postseason game on Thursday, May 18, and defeated the Panthers 2-0 then traveled to Whetstone on Saturday, May 20, to cap off the regular season with a 10-0 victory.

Pitcher Theo F. shined in the match against Fairbanks, allowing no runs and only 3 hits. He faced 25 batters, pitching 71 times and throwing 59 strikes. Academy took the lead early in the game and never let go. In the bottom of the 1st, Theo scored on a ground ball from Dominic D., followed by an error from Fairbank’s pitcher. In the bottom of the 3rd, Theo scored again on a pop fly from Peter T. The rest of the match was scoreless for both sides. The Vikings combined for a total of 6 hits: 2 from AJ B., 2 from Theo, 1 from Joey G., and 1 from Peter T.

In the shutout versus Whetstone, pitchers Harmon G. and Peter T. combined for 7 strikeouts and allowed only 4 hits in 6 innings. CA leapt onto the scoreboard quickly, with Theo making it home on the 3rd play in the top of the 1st. Academy continued to rack up its score with 2 runs in the 2nd, 4 in the 4th, and 3 in the 6th. Joey G. had the most hits at 3 as well as the most runners-batter-in with 4. Additionally, Whetstone pitched for only a single strikeout. 

The Vikes will host West Jefferson on Monday, May 22, at 5:00 p.m.
