Rough Week for Baseball

Varsity boys baseball struggled this week, hosting and losing to Worthington Christian on Wednesday, May 3, and then traveling to Fredericktown on Thursday, May 4, and Bishop Hartley on Saturday, May 6, and losing both of those matches as well.

Worthington Christian defeated CA with ease 7-1 on Wednesday. The game seemed close after the first 2 innings, with the score locked at 0 apiece. The Warriors exploded, however, in the top of the 3rd for 4 runs, 3 of them coming on a home run. The Vikings failed to muster any momentum offensively, and their only score came in the bottom of the 7th with Dominic D. making it home on a hit from Peter T.

The Freddies shutout CA 4-0 on Thursday as Fredericktown’s pitcher dismantled the Vikes at bat, and CA managed only 2 hits for the entire game that came from AJ B. who went 2-3 from bat. Although Academy’s Harmon G. pitched for 8 strikeouts, it was not enough as 4 Freddies made it home, 2 in the 2nd inning and 1 in each of the 4th and 5th innings.

Bishop Hartley outscored CA 10-4 on Saturday despite the Vikings’ early lead. In the top of the 1st, Dominic scored off a single from Joey G., and Dylan R. and Joey also made it home. However, the Hawks did not let Academy bask in victory for long, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. The 3rd inning went even worse for the Vikes, who managed a single run in the top of the 3rd while the Hawks managed 6 in the bottom of the 3rd. No more runs occurred for the rest of the match.

The boys record is now 15-7. Academy travels to Worthington Christian on Monday, May 8, to play at 5:15 p.m.
