Boys Track Dominates Two Meets

With two meets in a week, boys track and field ran at home on Tuesday, April 11, and traveled to Liberty Union’s “Zuber Relays” on Saturday, April 15. For its home meet, the team competed against Columbus Horizon, Cristo Rey, Kipp Academy, and Tree of Life, dominating with 209 points in comparison to second place Cristo Rey’s 57.5 points.

Both the 4x800m and the 4x200m relays placed first, the 4x400m ran to second, and the 4x100m finished third. 

Hurdlers Gabe A. and Charlie B. clocked in at 17.24 and 18.30 in the 110m hurdles, clinching first and second places. In the 300m hurdles, Charlie B., Gabe A., and Chazlance M. swept the podium with times of 47.40, 48.46, and 51.99, respectively.

Sprinters Justin A. and Emmanuel J. placed third and fifth in the 100m with 11.36 and 11.68. Ayden N. and Isaac C. placed third and fifth once again in the 200m, crossing the finish in 24.78 and 25.93. In the 400m dash, Gabe D. ran to third with a time of 54.34. 

Distance runners Elliott S., Dane C., and Chris H. secured places one through three in the 1600m with times of 4:40.84, 4:51.04, and 5:01.58, respectively. Dane C. ran to another second-place finish in the 800m with 2:17.46, and Jono H. followed in fourth with 2:21.93. Elliott S. and Chris H. took first and second in the 3200m with 11:05.05 and 11:08.36.

In the field events, Gabe D. and Jack H. placed first and second by clearing heights of 5’6” and 5’0” in the high jump. Justin A. long jumped 18’7.5” for third and Jack H.”s  18’0” put him in fifth. Max Z., Stavros M., and Marcus J. secured places two through four with discus throws of 91’08”, 87’01”, and 82’01”, respectively. Marcus J. and Max Z. also placed second and fourth with distances of 36’10.25” and 34’11.5” in shot put.

The boys traveled to Liberty Union on Saturday, April 15 to compete in “Zuber Relays” against 11 other schools. They secured second place in the 4x1600m, 4x800m, distance medley (800/400/1200/1600), 4x100m, 4x400m, and triple jump. The boys received third in the shuttle hurdles and long jump, fourth in high jump, and placed fifth in the sprint medley (100/100/200/400). 

With several strong showings, the Vikes emerged second overall. They will run at Worthington Christian on Tuesday, April 18, and at Whitehall Yearling on Friday, April 21.
