Third Graders Serve Kindness

Imagine brightening the day of someone you have never met with simple acts of kindness. Grade 3 Vikings did just that by uplifting others within Central Ohio through Seeds of Caring’s Kindness Corp program. The nonprofit believes children can use their minds, hearts, and hands to connect with their community.

In February, these lower schoolers designed 68 pieces of art that were distributed to residents of assisted living centers.

Before the hour spent completing these projects, these Vikings received lessons on empathy designed by Seeds of Caring. They watched a video introducing them to a senior living home, read a Mrs. Lizzy picture book sparking their empathy, and played a game connecting their feelings of sadness to the loneliness of the elderly in assisted living homes.

The Kindness Corp curriculum has resonated with LS students such as Blaine B., who said it would be “sad and hard for me to move away and not be close to my relatives.” Blaine said he also enjoys these hands-on projects because “it makes you feel good about helping other people.”

You’re never too young to help the community. (Grade 3 teacher, Mrs. Sinclair)
