Boys Basketball Finishes Historic Season

The boys varsity basketball team completed its 2022-2023 season with a record of 23-3 and earned district runner-up in the Division III central district playoffs.

Prior to earning a spot in the championship game, Academy played Madison Plains on February 27 at Dublin Jerome. The game was a defensive battle, with the Vikings falling behind 23-22 at the half. Theo F. led a scoring surge in the fourth quarter, helping Academy seal its 43-36 victory. Theo F. was the leading scorer with 20 points while Harmon G. chipped in 13.

On March 2, Academy squared off against Africentric, the top seed in the tournament, at Captial University for the district finals. The Nubians were a tough matchup for the Vikes, taking a 41-24 lead at halftime in spite of a full-court shot from Theo F. at the buzzer. Theo F. paced the Vikings with 20 points and Charle H. added in 11, despite the 78-56 loss.

The runner-up Vikings also earned individual recognition with Theo F. being named to the District III first team, Marcus J. to the third team, and Charlie H. as Honorable Mention.
