Anderson D. and Bittania T. serve our environment on Tidy-Up Thursday (Stephen M./Staff)
What 30-minute after school activity can you do with a friend to reduce our carbon footprint? Empty recycling bins into a 95-gallon wheeled cart as part of Tidy-Up-Thursday (TUT)!
Former Service Board President Aditya J.’17 envisioned recycling as a habit among the CA community, so he created “Tidy up Tuesday.” Over 5 years later, Adi’s dream has blossomed into reality: Academy students recycle more than 1 ton of paper monthly!
According to the EPA, landfills are the third largest source of methane emissions, and paper is its largest waste item. TUT volunteers ensure our recycled paper reaches the on-campus compactor. By diverting paper from the landfill, we can reduce global warming.
Thank you to everyone who disposes paper, cans, and bottles into recycling bins. It only takes 8-10 US students to ensure these bins don’t overflow and that their contents land in the 42-cubic yard recycling container. If interested, sign up at The Shack.
