Directed by Fahad Alammari, Alkhallat+ follows four short stories about trickery and deception. Characters find themselves in awkward situations and must weasel their way out of them before suffering consequences.
In part one, a man stumbles upon thieves stealing his tire. While he captures one of them, another accomplice tries to rescue him. Trouble arises when police officers interrogate two of the three men, threatening to implicate all three of them.
In part two, Sara, a waitress at a high-end restaurant, looks to remedy her parents’ relationship by arranging dinner for them. She cancels a set reservation, but her decision jeopardizes her reputation and causes her parent more problems.
The film takes a darker turn when a man entrusts a friend with a secret. After the man’s sudden death, his friend must hide it from his suspicious wife.
Last, a father sneaks his kids into a hotel, but his son slips into an adult-only nightclub. The chase to find him becomes a game of cat and mouse.
The movie delivered on its comedy. Entirely in Arabic and shot in Saudi Arabia, Alkhallat+ also provides a glimpse into the gulf nation’s culture. Following its success on the 2017 TV series Alkhallat+ stars Mohammed Aldokhei, Ibraheem Alkhairallah, Abdulaziz Alshehri and Ibrahem Al Hajjaj.
The film made history as the first Saudi Arabian film produced and distributed on Netflix, which released the TV-14-rated Alkhallat+ on January 19th with a runtime of 1 hour and 58 minutes.
