The Vikings faced the Portsmouth West Senators on Friday, November 4, and after a scoreless first quarter, the Senators broke the tie with a rushing touchdown. Portsmouth led 14-0 at halftime. Following another scoreless quarter, Portsmouth used an 18-play drive to extend their lead to 21-0. This 21-0 loss ended the Viking’s season.
The fact that the Vikings are after starting 1-5 displays the team’s grit. Some highlights of the regular season were the 42-0 win against Grandview, the 37-6 win versus Bexley, and their thrilling 2OT win facing Whitehall to put them in playoffs–in which they were against all odds, yet the Vikings pulled off an improbable 36-14 upset against Centerburg.
Next year, the Vikings will look for underclassmen to step up since nine of this season’s players are seniors.
