Academy has participated in the annual OCTM (Ohio Council of Teachers and Mathematics) math contest since 2010. In the past, The Ohio State University held the statewide competition. Now it is administered by teachers within each school.
This year, Mr. Olexio supervised 30 students competing in the OCTM contest on September 28. The 45-minute test was on paper, consisting of 40 questions with topics ranging from algebra to statistics.
Individuals who answered 16 or more questions correctly qualified for the next round, OHMIO (Ohio High School Mathematics Invitational Olympiad), which takes place on November 5 at Capital University. Congratulations to Erica D., Akshaj J., Audrey L., Grace L., Jim P., Hansheng X., and Carey Y. for moving on.
Mr. Olexio said, “The problems are cleverly written and are deeper than some other standardized test questions. The OCTM emphasizes topics like probability, statistics, and geometry, and there are lots of rich problems to be had in those areas.”
