The 92nd NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Regional Conference invited seven Columbus Academy students to be panelists and members on Friday, September 16.
Seniors Alexis C., Jacob M., Seth R., and Yassah T., and juniors Akshaj J., Cecelia R., and Alaina W. accompanied Dr. Losambe, our Director of Diversity and Community Life.
Organized by Tiffany Edwards, the Freedom Fund Chair for Ohio’s chapter of the NAACP, this year’s conference’s theme was “The Power of Us.” As the only youths present, our students were encouraged to share their perspectives on panels that discussed economic development, health advancement, and representation in the media.
After being impressed by the students’ drive and ability to vocalize their ideas, the event organizers recruited each student with the generous sponsorship of Dr. Carter D Womack. Jacob M. said, “it was eye-opening to hear my classmates’ viewpoints about topics I was also passionate about their ability to communicate these ideas and passion in such eloquent ways truly amazed me.”
