The girls varsity tennis team won four matches this week on th e road, showing its strength and teamwork by beating Coffman High School on Tuesday, September 13, and Magnificat High School on Saturday, September 17.
Before facing CA, Coffman was an undefeated Division 1 team that ranked second in the state. The Vikings came out on top in a close match, with junior Grace P. losing at first singles 2-6, 3-6, junior Arya C. winning her second singles 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, and sophomore Tamanna A. falling at third singles, 1-6, 6-7. Our doubles teams, however, overcame the deficit to secure an Academy win. Senior Anna C. and junior Yasemin B. triumphed at first doubles 6-2, 7-6, and junior Malia C. and senior Emily M. secured victory at second doubles 6-3, 6-2, for a total score of 3-2.
After their success against Coffman, Academy continued its rampage, winning against Wellington 4-1 on Thursday, September 15.
The girls defeated Magnificat, a Division 1 team ranked third in the state, 4-l and then beat Hawken 3-2 on September 17.
The team plays at home against the Columbus School for Girls on Tuesday, September 20 at 4:30 p.m.
