Directed by Patrick Imber, The Summit of the Gods is a French-animated film that follows Japanese reporter Makoto Fukamachi who believes that Joji Habu, an elusive mountain climber, may have the evidence that could answer one of mountaineering’s greatest mysteries.
Although Eedmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay first officially summited Mt. Everest in 1953, the result of a 1924 attempt by Geroge Mallory and Andrew Irvine remains contested because they never returned.
Fukamachi thinks that Habu may possess Mallory’s camera which could hold the revealing photos about what happened.
Scenes of mountain climbing are where the movie shines as the tension had me on edge. Oftentimes, I wondered why people would risk their livse for a goal that many of us don’t understand.
The film is 90 minutes and rated PG. Released on Netflix in 2021, the movie can be viewed with English subtitles or dubbed in English.
