The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, details the journey of Andalusian shepherd Santiago. After having recurring dreams, Santiago consults a fortune teller who tells him that his dreams are a prophecy of him finding treasure at the Egyptian pyramids. Later, an old man tells him he must find his “personal legend.” The shepherd then embarks on his odyssey. Along the way, he meets various characters who all point him in the same direction towards the treasure, yet none of them knows what it is. Santiago faces many trials but eventually discovers what his true treasure and personal legend are.
