Serving by Saving

Before disposing your next empty soda can into the recycling bin, think about removing the pop tab to donate for a needy cause. Revenue generated from recycling these flip tops goes toward funding expenses of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) which provides meals and housing to over 4,500 families annually. According to the RMHC website, families who are already suffering emotionally would also be hit with hotel bills averaging $100 a night if they were not staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Although saving these one-inch tabs may seem like it would generate less than one hundred dollars, it can reap thousands of dollars for the Ronald McDonald House. In 2018, the pop tops collected by Academy alone filled almost four trash cans, amounting to over 300 pounds of aluminum!

Your aluminum tab collection can be deposited in one of the seven new storage bins located throughout campus. This drive restores a service that originated 20 years ago by past Service Board officers Ryan K and Alice G.

Let’s pull together for this charitable cause!

“This [collecting pop tabs] is an easy way to support a charity that does a lot of good and helps the environment too.” – Ms. Bening
