Ice Hockey Comes up Short in Tournament

From Saturday, January 15 to Monday, January 17, the ice hockey team traveled to Strongsville to compete in the Walter F. Ehrnfelt Memorial tournament.

On Saturday, January 15, the Vikes played DeSales, with goals from AJ B. (2, assisted by Max W. and Ethan K.), Jack C. (1, assisted by Max W.), and Connor H. (1, also assisted by Max W.) along with solid defending sealed a 4-1 first round victory for the squad.

The team faced off against Beaver Creekon Sunday, January 1, losing 8-2 with goals from Max W.(1, unassisted) and Alex S. (1, assisted by Max W).

In Academy’s second game of the day, also on Sunday, January 16, the team dominated against Strongsville, winning 5-2 with goals from A.J. B. (3) and Max W. (2, one of which was an empty-net goal).

On Monday, January 17, the team capped off a packed weekend with the championship game in a rematch against Beaver Creek. The lone bright spot in a 9-1 loss was a goal from Andrew Z., assisted by A.J.B..

The Vikes will look to gain some momentum from this tournament when the squad returns to league play at home on Friday, January 21 against Gahanna Lincoln, Saturday, January 22–against Springboro, and on Sunday, January 23 against Worthington Kilbourne.
