Will Wight’s series of The Cradle, set in a medieval-style tale of a magical martial arts world, is inspired by Korean and Chinese mythology and the xianxia (Chinese fantasy) genre. It follows the story of Wei Shi Lindon, a powerless member of the Wei clan, who turns his life around after a heavenly messenger shows him the future where a mysterious and monstrous force destroys the valley he lives in, killing him and everyone he loves. 

Lindon journeys to gain enough power to prevent this and makes a cast of friends and enemies along the way. This fast-paced series spans ten books, with the first, Unsouled, published in 2017, followed by Soulsmith, Blackflame, Skysworn, Ghostwater, Underlord, Uncrowned, Wintersteel, Bloodline, and Reaped, published by Wight’s company, Hidden Gnome.
