Boys Track Dominates on Senior Night, Places Last in Division I Meet

Academy had its Senior Night against Delaware Christian and London on Tuesday, April 27. With four years of hard work, Vaughn Armour, Manny Eribo, Jake Huddleston, Sam Huyghe, Luke Nester, Skyler Simpson, Gabe Taub, and Vinny White were honored.

Huyghe, Zech Kim’23, and Jack DeLuca’24 sprinted to second, third, and fifth place finishes, respectively, in the 100 meter dash. Then, Eribo, Huyghe, and Kim earned first, third, and fifth place finishes, respectively, in the 200. Next, Nester, Kim, White, and Armour flew to second, third, fourth, and fifth place finishes, respectively, in the 400. 

In the distance events, White, Liam Ross’22 and Elliot Schehl’24 earned first, third, and fifth in the 800. Huddleston, Peter Heermann’22, and Jono Hammond’23 took first, second, and third place, respectively, in the 1600. Finally, in the 3200, Nester, Huddleston, Heermann, and Hammond swept first through fourth, respectively.

Gabe Aebi’24, Carey Yi’24, and Kevin Wang’23 swept the podium in the 110m hurdles, getting first, second, and third, and Aebi and Simpson finished second and third in the 300m hurdles.

Gabe Eribo’23, Manny Eribo, Kim, and Huyghe snatched first in the 4×200. Then, Kevin Wang’23, Armour, DeLuca, and Charlie Heywood’23 took second in the 4×400. Next, White, Ross, Jack Yeoman’24, and Nester worked together to earn first in the 4×400.

Ben Anasis’22 and Taub threw third and fifth in shot put and then earned fifth and second in discus.

White and Heywood took third and fifth in the high jump. Manny Eribo leaped to second in the long jump.

These impressive results led to a dominant first place finish in the meet for the Vikes’ Senior Night.

On Friday, April 30, the team traveled to Canal Winchester to compete in the Milt Will Invitational against Canal Winchester, Fairfield Union, Groveport Madison, New Albany, Pickerington Central, Pickerington North, and Reynoldsburg. Academy was the only DIII team competing, and the only DII team was Fairfield Union, so the Vikes knew the competition at the meet would be fierce.

In sprints, the team’s top-10 finishers were Eribo at 10th placein the 100 meters, while Huyghe flew to sixth place in the 400. 

Heermann was the only distance runner logging a result, earning 11th in the 3200. Aebi and Yi finished 13th and 14th in the 110m hurdles. Aebi and Simpson took 13th and 14th in the 300m hurdles.

For relays, the top-10 finishes included the 4×100, comprised of Gavin Lewis’23, Aebi, Drew Stokes’24, and DeLuca, finishing in eighth. The 4×200, which matched DeLuca, Huyghe, Kim, and Eribo finished in seventh. And the 4×800 relay of White, Huddleston, Heermann, and Hammond came in eighth.  

In shot put, Anasis and Taub threw themselves to 12th and 16th, and in discus, Taub and Anasis earned 11th and 14th.

White and Heywood hopped to eighth and ninth in the high jump–then Eribo and Heywood leaped to ninth and 14thin the long jump.

These results landed the Vikes a last place.

Academy hosts Bishop Watterson on Wednesday, May 5, then travels to Westerville Central to compete in the Warhawk Invitational on Friday, May 7. These will be the team’s final two meets before the squad heads to MSLs on Tuesday, May 11 and Friday, May 14.
