Boys tennios kicked off last week with a match against St. Charles on Monday, April 19. Arie Tuckerman’21 fell 0-6, 1-6 to his first singles opponent, but Jack Madison’21 brought it back with a dominant 6-3, 6-3 win. Ryan Panley’22 followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in third singles, before juniors Jake Stouffer and Jaswanth Vandrasi steamrolled their first doubles 6-1, 6-2. Saagar Arya’23 and Lucas Huang’21 wrapped up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Vikes fought hard on Tuesday, April 20 but fell to New Albany 2-3. Panley conquering in his singles with 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 a Arya followed in second singles but was outlasted 0-6, 1-6. Then Dhruv Edamadaka’22 was edged out 0-6, 0-6 at third singles. For Madison and Tuckerman, the competition was too steep in doubles, losimng 1-6, 2-6. Stouffer and Vandrasi secured a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 victory.
The team picked up its momentum with a 3-2 win against Olentangy Orange on Wednesday, April 21. Tuckerman started the match with an unfortunate 0-6, 1-6 loss. Madison followed with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 win, before Panley fell 4-6, 6-2, 0-1 to his Pioneer opponent. Stouffer and Vandrasi kicked off the doubles matches with a 6-3, 6-4, victory. As the match came to a close, Arya and Huang brought it home with a final score of 6-4, 6-2 at second doubles.
Our boys earned a 5-0 shutout against Whitehall on Thursday, April 22. Edamadaka and Huang secured a 6-0, 6-0 victories at first and second singles, respectively. Cory Wu’23 continued the trend, nabbing a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. Sidd Armirneni’22 and Vandrasi triumphed over their opponents with a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory, before Stefen Li’23 and Vincent Sommer’24 finished the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Academy dominated against Walsh Jesuit on Friday, April 23, defeating the Warriors 3-2. Tuckerman fought hard but was outlasted 1-6, 0-6 at first singles, before Panley bounced back in second singles with a 7-5, 6-4 win. Edamadaka finished the singles round with a 2-6, 2-6 loss in third singles. Stouffer and Vandrasi crushed their competitors 6-4, 6-3, before Arya and Huang brought it home at second doubles to secure a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
The team closed out the week with a 4-1 win against St. John’s Jesuits on Saturday, April 24. Tuckerman kicked off the match at first singles but was defeated in a close match of 3-6, 1-6. Panley brought back the momentum, conquering his opponent 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 at second singles, before Arya secured a 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at third singles. Stouffer and Vandrasi proved to be a dominant duo with a 7-6, 6-4 win at first doubles, as Armirneni and Huang finished the series of matches with a strong victory, defeating the Titans 6-1, 7-5.
The Vikes have four upcoming matches against top teams, hosting Upper Arlington on Monday, April 26, before facing Buckeye Valley at home on Tuesday, April 27. They play away match against Worthington Christian on Thursday, April 29, at Grace Brethren Church-Athletic Complex.
