Mixed Results for Boys Tennis

The Columbus Academy boys tennis team faced some of its toughest competition yet, finishing the week with three losses and one win to secure a total record of 4-3.

The Vikes kicked off the week with a match against Olentangy on Monday, April 12. Arie Tuckerman’21 fought hard in first singles but was overwhelmed 0-6, 0-6. Jack Madison’21 brought back the momentum with a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles, with Ryan Panley’22 following close behind with a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 victory at third singles. Juniors Jake Stouffer and Jaswanth Vandrasi were defeated by their first doubles rivals 3-6, 4-6, while Saagar Arya’23 and Dhruv Edamadaka’22 fell 4-6, 4-6 in second doubles. 

After a tough loss against Olentangy, the Vikings faced Bexley on Tuesday, April 13. Madison started the match off with a bang, dominating 4-6, 2-6 at first singles. Tuckerman failed to overcome his rival in second singles, losing 4-6, 1-6, before Stouffer finished the singles round with a close 1-6, 0-6, 2-6 loss. Anxious to snag a win, Panley and Vandrasi steamrolled their first doubles competitors to secure a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Sidd Armirneni’22 and Arya pushed to win the final match, but the competition was too steep, and the boys lost 4-6, 5-7, 2-6.

After a rough patch at the beginning of the week, the Vikings secured a win against Wellington on Wednesday, April 14. Madison was defeated 0-6, 4-6 at first singles, while Tuckerman continued the trend with a 5-7, 4-6 loss at second singles. The Vikings picked up momentum in third singles, as Panley conquered with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 win. Stouffer and Vandrasi crushed their competitors 7-6, 7-6, before Edamadaka and Lucas Huang’21 brought it home at second doubles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. 

The Vikes finished the week with a 1-4 loss against St. Xavier on Friday, April 16. Tuckerman was quickly overwhelmed 1-6, 0-6 at first singles, while Madison followed close behind with a 2-6, 4-6 loss. Panley secured the lone win of the match in third singles, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-2. Stouffer and Vandrasi were edged out by their first doubles rivals 1-6, 2-6, before Arya and Edamadaka finished the match with a 1-6, 2-6 loss. 

Our boys hope to rebound on Monday, April 19, with an away match against St. Charles. Next, the Vikings will take on New Albany away on Tuesday, April 20. The Vikes then travel to Olentangy Orange on Wednesday, April 21, before facing Whitehall away on Thursday, April 22. The Vikings will close out the week by hosting Walsh Jesuit and St. John’s Jesuit on Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24, respectively.
