Girls Track and Field Crush the Week

The girls track and field team won its first meet at home and finished second against multiple Division 1 teams at Whitehall.

The girls’ tally on their April 13 home meet was 118, with 8 for Gilead Christian,and 6 for Tree of Life Christian. Our girls fired off, sweeping the high jump with Allison Klinefelter’24 and Olivia Pierre-Louis ‘21 tying for first at 4’ 10.” Maddie Martin’24 and Samantha Frickel’23 tied for third at 4’ 6,” and at discus, with Lindsey Sutherland’22 won at 79-00, Victoria Raiken’23 toosecond at 70-04, and Tara Hoffman’22 finished third with 55-04.

Continuing their dominance in the field events, the girls reigned in discus: Sutherland won first with 24-11, and Raiken took second again with 23-08. Yassah Tommy’23 got third, earning 23-06.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Lowrie clocked in at 17.93, Samantha Whitson placed second with 18.21, and Zoya Arnold won third at 18.93.

Adelaide Kaufman’23 took the one-mile home at 5.42.00, with Julia DeVore finishing second at 7.44.00, and Maria Masek inthird at 7.52.00. Kaufman also won the 2-mile at 14:31.46.

Kaufman, Prall, Masek and DeVore won the 4 by 8 at 12.19.24.

In the 100 meter dash, Klinefelter won at 13.24 and and Hannah Clay’21 finished second at 13.40. Clay won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.74, with Regan Cornelius’21 following close behind at 1:05.08, along with Caitlynn Hinds in third at 1:05.65.

Cornelius followed that up with an 800 meter dash win at 2:33.14. Frickel got second with 2:40.78, and Mary Kate Prall”22 clocked in third at 2:59.71.

Clay won 200 meter dash at 27.96. Hinds finished third at 28.70.

The girls swept rhe 300 meter hurdles. In first, Olivia Archibald ran a  54.48. Arnold got second place at 54.99, and Lowrie finished third at 55.40. 

In the 4 by 400 relay, Whitson, Clay, Pierre-Louis and Cornelius won with a time of 4:37.02.

Next up was our girls’ 91-point second-place win on April 16, losing only to powerhouse Pickerington Central (97). Academy took down Hilliard Darby (84), Northland (82), Walnut Ridge (37), Whitehall (36), Africentric (29), Wellington (24), Bishop Ready (23), Columbus Independence (21), Mifflin (7) and Columbus East (5).  

Highlights included Cornelius’s mile win with 5:42.61. Pierre-Louis, Clay, Hinds and Cornelius placed second in the 4 by 400 relay at 4:27.38, and Kaufman, Prall, Devore and Cornelius placed third in the 4 x 800 meter relay at 10:54.91. Eleanor Schroeder ‘24, Arnold, Prall and Cornelius got second in the distance medley with 14:20.88.

After this, Irena Alahakoon’24, Martin, Clay and Hinds finished third in the sprint medley with 2:00.60. Finally, our girls won the 4 by 100 shuttle hurdles: Lowrie, Schroeder, Arnold and Whitson ran a time of 1:12.06.

The girls will run against Worthington Christian at the Grace Brethren Church-Athletic Complex on April 20 and travel to Gahanna Lincoln on April 21 for Gahanna relays.
