Academy began its run in districts on Saturday, February 20. First up, the 19-seed Vikes played 18-seed Archbishop Alter.

In the first period, Academy started strong when goals from Max Walker’22 and Campbell Gwin’21 gave the Vikes a 2-0 lead. In the second, Jake Carlin’22 added another for the Vikes. Only a few minutes later, Adam Bradley’23 struck the back of the net for a 4-0 lead.

But ust before the end of the second, the Knights brought one back. This change in momentum meant that the Vikes played the entire final period on defense. Alter added two more to its tally, mounting a serious comeback with 7 minutes to go in the game. Luckily, though, Academy played solid defense and kept the Knights at bay, winning the game 4-3.

Academy then faced off against the two-seed in the tournament, Upper Arlington, on Sunday, February 21.

Despite the Vikes steep odds of winning, they  held off the Golden Bears for most of the first period. With 3:47 to go in the period, Upper Arlington finally broke through for a goal. The second period was much of the same, with Academy defending the Golden Bears to keep the game close. In the final period, though, Upper Arlington separated itself from the Vikes with three goals to end the game with a 0-4 loss for Academy.

The Vikes ended the season in 4th place in the Capital Hockey Conference- Blue Division with 6 wins, 10 losses, and 1 overtime loss: a solid campaign.
