Exposure to the arts is limited as a result of CoVid-19, with many museums and galleries closed or only offering limited hours and exhibits. With new technology, you can now visit these famous museums from your phone or another device.
Many famous museums have free online exhibits. Google has a collection of museums and other landmarks: the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam that allows you can to examine Van Gogh’s books in one exhibit and then learn about his love life in another. The Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City features an exhibit of her clothes and prosthetic devices entitled, “Appearances Can Be Deceiving.” You can also do a virtual tour of the White House that lets you move around different rooms and gives you the history of the decor and artwork.
In addition to the Google Arts and Culture Collection, The Met Unframed is a mobile and immersive art experience. The link brings you to a QR code, which you scan from your phone. You can then move around the different exhibits in The Met, and read about the different pieces of art around the museum. There is also a tool that allows you to magnify the pieces in order to see them better. The Met Unframed makes you feel like you are actually in this famous New York City museum as you explore its cavernous galleries, prolific artwork, and gothic architecture.
If you need a break from Netflix and want to see some famous artwork and landmarks from all over the world, check out The Met Unframed and Google Arts and Culture.
