Revisiting 2000’s Rom-Coms with Easy A

There are many teen dramas produced around the 2000’s that are arguably unrivaled by any new teen dramas. For example, Clueless and Mean Girls, and Easy A is up there with them.

Easy A stars a high schooler named Olive Pendergast (Emma Stone), who within her school goes unnoticed–that is, until a rumor about her turns her world upside down when she becomes the talk of the school. Instead of letting it blow over, she plays into the gossip.

The film is full of characters that you love as well as hate. With eccentric characters like Marianne, known as the “Jesus freak” (Amanda Bynes), to Todd, the school mascot, and Olive’s love interest (Penn Badgley), as well as Olive’s comic parents (Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci).

For the most part this film got a positive response, with a 85% from Rotten Tomatoes and a 72% from Metacritic.

Easy A was  just the laugh I needed during a long quarantine. Its release was on September 17th, 2010. Runtime is one hour and thirty minutes.  Available on Netflix. Rated PG-13: comedy, drama, and romance.

Before watching please consider the mature content in this film.
