Our boys soccer team defeated the Fairbanks Panthers 3-1 on Saturday, October 31 at Hondros Field, earning the Vikings’ 10th district title under Coach Leach. This victory capped off an impressive week for the team, having previously defeated Madison Christian and Liberty Union.
The Vikings handily defeated Madison Christian on Monday, October 26 on Hondros 4-0. Seniors Grant Edwards and Jonah Houston, sophomore Charlie Tuckerman and junior David Wunsch tallied the team’s goals with goalkeeper Luke Budzik ‘21 and his defensive mates recording yet another shutout.
After a day’s respite, captains Jonah Houston and Jared Kass rallied the team to take on Liberty Union on Wednesday, October 28, again on Hondros, where the team defeated the Lions 4-0. The team played with reckless abandon, netting a score at the 3-minute mark as C. Tuckerman received a long ball from J. Kass and rapidly delivered a laser to Edwards for a tap in goal. Leo Kass’23 added an additional score with a rocket to the near post at the 22-minute mark. The Panthers scored on a tepid set-piece goal early in the second-half, though any momentum they could have gained from this was squashed by a brillant bending shot to the far post by C. Tuckerman at the 59-minute mark to close out the scoring.
With a 10-6-2 record, The Vikings, will continue their pursuit of a state championship in the regional semi-final against Botkins on Wednesday, November 4, at 7 P.M. at Hondros Field.
