The Vikings defeated Jonathan Alder at Hondros Field on September 16. The Pioneers appeared bewildered throughout the majority of the contest, as the Viking’s use of an overwhelming offensive barrage led to a 6-0 victory. The Pioneers withered as five Vikings found the net before Jonathan Alder managed a tepid shot on the reserve goalkeeper Grant Edwards in the last minutes of the game.
The Vikes’ first score was notched 2 minutes into the first half as senior Jared Kass launched a perfect pass to a sprinting sophomore Charlie Tuckerman, who juked the goaltender and slammed the ball into the net. The Vikings netted an additional score at the 15-minute mark as Tuckerman drew multiple defenders, prior to lasering a pass to junior David Wunch, who tucked the ball into the net.
The defensive backfield of Kass, Jonah Houston, Zach White, and Campbell Gwin neutered the Pioneers’ offensive capabilities. This defensive bulwark, which has been the Viking’s most effective component early in the season, allowed offense to continue its attack. Tuckerman received a pass from Houston at the 29-minute mark, sprinted past several Pioneers, and rocketed a shot into the net. The Vikings 3-0 was followed 15 seconds later with a foul on Tuckerman in the penalty box as Houston scored on the penalty shot.
The second half witnessed a continuation of the Vikes’ offensive barrage. Sophomore Leo Kass fought off several defenders near the penalty line and scored on a shot to the near post. Malachy Sullivan closed out the scoring at the 22-minute mark, taking a pass near midfield and eluded several defenders then launched a wicked shot into the Pioneers’ net.
The Vikings, after the closing whistle, left the field with an increased confidence in their offensive capabilities as this decisive victory followed their 5-2 defeat of Hamilton Township on September 14. Their season record in regulation play now stands at 3-2-2.
The Viking’s next contest is against the Whitehall Rams at 7:15 pm on September 23 at Hondros Field.
