Tiger King Takes TV Trash to a New Low

If you have already finished Netflix’s Tiger King, my condolences: you’ll never get back those five wasted hours of your life. Tiger King: Murder, Madness, and Mayhem follows private zoo owners and big cat breeders as their rivalries spiral out of control and shows how obsession can become deadly. Directed by Eric Goode and Rachel Chaiklin, this True Crime documentary has everybody talking about the drama and possible criminal attempts by eccentric big cat collectors Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, and Bhagavan Antle.

The series has quickly become one of the most-watched shows on Netflix, despite its appalling content. Many believe its popularity was due to the vast stay-at-home mandates from the Coronavirus. With viewers stuck at home, “trashy tv” like Tiger King provided an escape from reality.

The lack of the characters’ morals, rampant animal abuse, and predatory nature of everyone featured make this series too sickening to watch. What was supposed to be a “binge-worthy” series turned out to be a bust.

If you are looking for a distraction, do yourself a favor and skip this series.
