On Saturday, February 22, the CA girls basketball team fell in the sectional finals to North Union, 53-42.

Going in as the underdogs to the eighth-seeded Wildcats, the fourteenth-seeded girls started out strong. Sophomore Sophie Spolter came out hot, scoring 6 early points to lead the Vikes to a 10-9 lead on the road.

The Wildcats came back strong in the second, taking a one point lead into halftime. Unfortunately, despite Spolter’s 21 points, the Vikings continued to fall behind and fell by 11.

While this wasn’t how they wanted it to end, the girls still had a strong season. They finished 8-15 on the year and had Spolter named to the MSL 1st team and junior Kayla McClendon to the second team.

McClendon, Spolter, and sophomore Claudia Warstler will look to lead the Vikes to a deeper playoff run next year.
