On Saturday, October 26, Columbus Academy’s boys varsity team, along with Annalise Grammel’20 and Regan Cornelius’21 traveled to Pickerington North to race in regionals, looking to qualify for the state meet. The boys competed against 21 other talented teams, needing to place in the top 7 as a team and top 28 individually to move on. While the girls did not qualify for a team score, they looked to place in the top 28.

Grammel and Cornelius raced as a duo, with Grammel placing 18 and running a 19:35, and Cornelius not far behind at 21, with a 19:41. Both girls secured spots for the states, and for Grammel her 4th year in a row.

The boys’ squad placed 12 out of 21 teams yet will send junior Luke Nester on individually for his 3rd consecutive year. He led the team, finishing 7th and clocking in at 16:22, followed by senior Charlie Sabgir, who ran a 17:02. Jake Huddleston’21 placed 59th with a 17:38, followed by the pack of Alex O’Connor’20, Peter Heerman’22, and Cyrus Richardson’22, who placed 135, 138, and 140, respectively.

Cornelius, Grammel, and Nester look forward to capping off their season at states next Saturday, November 2, at National Trails Raceway.
