Following some heavy banter on Instagram, the Columbus Academy boys soccer team traveled to Whitehall Yearling on Wednesday, September 25, to take on the Rams and end its string of ties.
After a slow first, the Vikes controlled possession but couldn’t land a goal.
Following halftime, senior Sam Massick streaked down the side for a quick goal within the first minutes of the half. Not long after that, Massick pocketed another to give CA a 2-0 lead. Our defense held strong and shut out the Rams to earn its first league win of the season.
Trying to ride onj this momentum, the Vikes hosted Lancaster on Saturday, September 28. Unlike Wednesday’s game, Academy got the ball rolling quickly and never looked back. Dominating throughout, the Vikings were up 4-0 at the half, thanks to two goals from Massick and one each from seniors Evan Farrenkopf and Blake Chiovaro.
The team eased off a bit in the second half, with Farrenkopf scoring one more for a career-making game, leading the Vikes to a commanding 5-1 victory.
Our boys look to build on these two wins with two home games as they host Westland on Tuesday, October 1, for Senior Night before facing off against Buckeye Valley on Saturday, October 5.
