On Saturday, September 28, the Columbus Academy cross-country team took its talents to Olentangy Berlin’s Bear Den Dash. The boys varsity competed against ten teams while the girls varsity raced against an equally high-level competition.

The boys sped to a 5th place finish among a stacked D1 field. Luke Nester’21 ran an impressive 16:29 second race, placing third overall. Senior Charlie Sabgir’20 also had a strong run, placing 9th with a 17:01. These two top ten performances were crucial to the Vikes’ team score. Junior Jake Huddleston, along with Alex O’Connor’20, Peter Heermann’22, Cooper Schnitzer’21, and Calvin Wade’21 also contributed to the team’s solid performance.

The girls ran through the heat, but unfortunately only had four runners-not enough to score as a team. Senior Annalise Grammel finished 4th, with a time of 19:50. Regan Cornelius’21 finished 9th, clocking in at 20:10, followed by senior Whitney Hannallah and sophomore Janet Li.

The Vikings have a dual meet at home to celebrate Senior Night on Wednesday, October 2, against Newark Catholic.

They race at the Eisenhart Invitational at Thomas Worthington on Saturday, October 5.
