On Saturday, August 31, the Vikes competed against Summit Country Day at the Dewine dual meet.

Clocking in at 16:35 and 17:12, Luke Nester’21 and Charlie Sabgir’20 bolted their way to first and second place finishes, respectively. Racing in ideal conditions, the other boys on the team were also looking to impress, as Jake Huddleston’21, Alex O’Connor’20, Calvin Wade’20, Peter Heermann’22, and Cooper Schnitzer’21 all contributed to a strong 17:39 average time and a team score of 27, edging out Summit Country Day by one point to claim the victory.

Our girls’runners, Annalise Grammel’20 and Regan Cornelius’21 similarly darted their way to a one-two finish. Grammel flew over the finish line in an astounding 19:44, followed by Cornelius with a time of 19:56. With the help of Samatha Frickel’23 at 21.59, the Vikings dusted the competition, snatching the top three spots individually and running a team average of 22:55 minutes, scoring 26 points. This dominant effort put Academy on top of Summit Country Days 23:29 average and score of 31 points, making our girls victorious.

For a team with high expectations, this weekend’s dominant performance from both our boys and girls teams keeps CA optimistic for the season ahead. The Vikes’ next meet is the McGowan Invitational at Watkins Memorial High on Saturday, September 7, and Academy is looking to run to more top finishes against a stacked field.
