Boys track continued their postseason at Watkins Memorial, starting with field events on Tuesday, May 14. They continued onto preliminaries on Thursday, May 16, before wrapping up the meet with finals on Saturday, May 18. The Vikes took second place in the stacked field with a whopping 101 points. The boys needed to be in the top four in each of their events to move onto regionals.
Kicking things off, junior Ezra Johnson sprinted to a fourth-place finish in the 200, right behind senior Harry Mills who took first in the event. Mills also edged out Sam Huyghe’21 for second in the 400, but all three boys have lived to run another day.
Going the distance, senior Liam McCann flew to fourth in the 800, while Luke Nester’21 ran to a second place finish in the 1600, boasting an impressive time of 4:28, meaning McCann and Nester will both race again at regionals.
The Vikings’ relays also played a starring role in their impressive team finish. Manny Eribo’21, Huyghe, Johnson, and Mills sprinted to first in the 4×200, while Huyghe, Johnson, Mills, and Nester won the 4×400. Finally, Huyghe, McCann, Nester, and Sabgir ran together to finish third in the 4×800, cinching them all qualifying spots for Regionals.
In the field, senior Alex McClellan leapt to fourth in the high jump and sixth in the long jump, and earned himself a spot at regionals in the high jump. Senior Caleb Crawley hurled the discus 139’7” and threw the shot put 45’3” to place second in both events, moving on to regionals.
The Vikings will race again at regionals on Wednesday, May 22 and Friday, May 24.
