The Vikings were looking forward to the beginning of the state tournament after a phenomenal regular season and proved they weren’t here to mess around.
Facing off against Olentangy Berlin on Monday, May 13, our boys wasted no time getting ahead. Many people contributed to the Vikes 20-7 victory, including a whopping five goals from David Barren’19, two from fellow senior Keenan Bellisari, and a hat trick from another senior, Malcolm Klingbeil. The juniors and underclassmen also did their job, with junior Blake Chiovaro scoring in the fourth quarter and Charlie Yaw’20 putting four in the back of the net. Campbell Gwin ‘21 added another goal to the scoreboard, while freshman Zach White finished off the Bears with four goals, three of which came in the second quarter.
Having dusted Olentangy Berlin, the Vikes moved on to the second round of the tournament, going up against Big Walnut on Friday, May 17. While the Golden Eagles tried to keep it close in the first quarter, Barren and Klingbeil both scored twice and Andrew Swartz ‘20 scored once to put our boys up 5-2. The Vikes held on to their lead in the second quarter, as Bellisari put two in the back of the net, followed by Barren, Swartz, and White with one each. Up 10-6 at half, CA went on cruise control, with Yaw scoring twice in the third quarter and Barren scoring once in the fourth. Klingbeil finshed off the game with two goals, making the final score 15-10 and sending the Vikings off to the third round of the tournament.
Looking to continue their postseason run, the CA boys lacrosse team will play again on Monday, May 20.
