Tennis Goes 4-1 in Big Week

The Columbus Academy boys tennis team added four more wins to their total this week, despite suffering a rare loss to University School.

The Vikes began the week with a match against Dublin Coffman on Monday, April 29. The #10 team in Division 1 was no match for the Vikings, as they swept the Shamrocks 5-0.

Academy swept another team on Tuesday, April 30, as they defeated the Grandview Bobcats. Cousins Arie Tuckerman’21 and Jack Madison’21 did not drop a game in their respective singles courts.

Playing their third match in three days, the Vikes battled through fatigue to deliver another victory on Senior Night against Thomas Worthington. Unfortunately, they were unable to create their third sweep in a row, but they still came away with the 4-1 victory.

The Vikings played yet another match on Thursday, May 2 against our rival, the Bexley Lions. Academy was simply too strong for the #5 ranked team in Division 2, as they delivered yet another sweep, 4-0.

Sadly, the boys’ 8-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, May 5, against University School. The perennial powerhouse was too much to overcome for a worn-down Academy team. Drew Haffer’19 and Rhian Seneviratne’20 continued their spectacular performances at first doubles, winning the Vikes’ lone match of the day.

The Vikings will look to start a new winning streak on Monday, May 6, against Olentangy Orange.
