Talking about the Teaser: “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”

Few film franchises have garnered as much popularity as Star Wars over the years, and while the series has been in existence for more than four decades, it certainly isn’t anywhere close to being finished.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will, however, bring both Disney’s sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga as a whole to a close. Taking place about a year after 2017’s The Last Jedi, the new film follows the cast of characters established by the previous two movies while introducing a few new cast members as well (though we know very little about these additions). The plot will somehow bring the conflict between the Resistance and the First Order to a resolution.

The teaser begins with a shot of Rey (Daisy Ridley) on a desert planet running and leaping over what appears to be the TIE silencer of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) with Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) repaired, ignited blue lightsaber in hand, suggesting that Rey and Ren will once again meet in combat.

As the trailer goes on, we get to observe Ren cutting down a foe, recognize familiar faces such as Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), see Rey back together with allies such as Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega), and catch a glimpse of what appears to be the fallen, submerged wreckage of the second Death Star before hearing a cackle that any Star Wars fan would find to be instantly recognizable.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, produced by Lucasfilm and Bad Robot Productions, and (planned to be) distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is coming to theaters on December 20, 2019 and will serve as a thrilling finale to a saga that has captured the hearts and minds of its audiences for decades.
