Boys Track Prevails on Senior Night, Stumbles Three Days Later

On Tuesday, April 23, our boys track team had its Senior Night as they hosted Centerburg at home, recognizing seniors David Barren, Caleb Crawley, Eric DeVore, William Galbreath, Samantha Kass, Ginnie Ma, Caroline Mallory, Liam McCann, Alex McClellan, Hayden Meyers, Harry Mills, Ethan Nankervis, Callista Popp, Abhi Ramesh, Maddie Tuckerman, and Aden Weiser. The celebrations continued onto the track, as the Vikes prevailed against the Trojans.

In the 100, Harry Mills’19, Ezra Johnson’20, and Manny Eribo’21 dashed to the top three finishes. Johnson raced ahead of the pack to a first place finish in the 200, with senior Ethan Nankervis trailing close behind in third. In the 400, Johnson flew to another second place finish with senior Eric DeVore placing third.

Academy’s Liam McCann’19, Alex O’Connor’20, and Jake Huddleston’21 swept the podium in the 800. McCann, Huddleston, and Abhi Ramesh’19 flew ahead of the competition in the 1600, placing first, second, and third respectively.

In the 4×400 relay, Eribo, Nankervis, McCann, and Andrew Cahall’20 worked together for a first place finish.

Senior Alex McClellan leaped to a first place finish in the high jump, while sophomore Ethan Zochowski and Johnson flew to second and third in the long jump. Caleb Crawley topped the competition in shotput and discus.

The Vikes raced again on Friday April 26 in Canal Winchester against Canal Winchester, Pickerington Central, Pickerington North, Groveport Madison, New Albany, and Fairfield Union, placing last against the tough competition of the meet.

Mills placed fourth in the 100 and the 200, and sophomore Sam Huyghe dashed to eighth place in the 400.

Sophomore Luke Nester rounded out the top three in the 800 and flew to fifth in the 1600 with an impressive time of 4:42. Charlie Sabgir’20 earned a solid fifth place finish in the 3200.

In the field, Crawley’s discus flew to a fifth place finish with an impressive distance of 136’10”-while McClellan leaped to fifth in high jump and Zochowski hopped to ninth in the long jump.

The Vikes race again on Wednesday, May 1 at home against Bloom Carroll and on Friday, May 3, at Westerville Central.
