Cap City: A Central Ohio Classic

Cap City’s exterior at the Gahanna location. (Sarah Silver ’21/Staff)

The Cameron Mitchell restaurant, Cap City, is a classic diner famous for its timeless aesthetic and sizable platters and desserts.

A large gumball machine invites you into the restaurant, while renowned photos such as those of Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans surround the many tables and booths scattered around the restaurant.

Cap City features traditional diner delicacies, including Jake’s Famous Reuben ($12.99) with house-made pulled corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and 1000-island on marble rye, and my personal favorite: the Cap City Diner Meatloaf ($17.99) with buttermilk-chive mashed potatoes, broccoli, chili onion rings, and barbeque gravy.

Cap City also prides itself on its famous desserts, such as the three-layer Seriously Big Chocolate Cake ($7.99) and the Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pie ($7.79) with an Oreo Crust, peanut butter mousse, and a chocolate ganache.
