On Saturday, February 16, six Academy wrestlers competed in the MSL-Ohio tournament, with a fantastic showing from the Vikes.

Several athletes took home individual league titles in their weight class, as senior Eric Menq, sophomores Chris Sugar, Keir Gorosope and Ethan Stahl, and freshman Gyvnn Mendenhall went undefeated on the day. Matt Comisar’22 also took home 2nd place in his weight class.

As a team, the injury-ravaged Vikes battled their way to a third-place finish in the MSL dual match. As has been the story many times over the course of the season, the Vikings were simply unable to field enough wrestlers to avoid a devastating number of forfeits. Despite the 3rd place finish, the day was still successful for Academy, as the strong performances by underclassmen showed bright signs for the future of CA wrestling.

The Vikings will look to build on their strong showings at the MSLs on Saturday, February 23, when they compete in sectionals at Madison Plains.
