Both Striking Viking squads closed out the season over the long weekend, competing at sectionals on Friday, February 15, and Saturday, February 16.
The boys placed 26th out of 32 squads. Vincent White Jr.’21 led the way once again, bowling for a total of 487 in three games, including an explosive 208 in the second. Ryan Reagan’22 was very consistent, putting up 147, 154 and 135. Michael Hoffman’20 had a solid outing, with 135, 146 and 116. Senior Will Mathews put up 120 and 135 in the second and third game, respectively. In the first game, sophomores Cole Leis had 108 and Xander Wood had 103.
On the girls side, Bea Sull‘21 had a great performance, increasing every game from 102 to 121 to 128. Tara Hoffman’22 was also impressive, bowling 120, 99, and 117. Gigi Bates‘20 put up a solid showing with scores of 112, 127, and 90. Nikki Turley‘20 had a total of 314, and sophomore Evelyn Olexio had a total of 282. Although the girls finished 25 out of 31 teams on February 15, they showed room for improvement.
Despite the early end to their season, the Vikings are more than ready to take on the competition next year. Seniors Sidney Edson, Julia Gurevitz, Paul Hansen, Will Mathews, and Katie Wunsch will be missed, but the young talent on the team ensures a bright future for Academy.
