Girls Dominate Swimming Sectionals

This week was the biggest so far for the girls. The Aqua Vikes prepared for this by tapering all this week, preparing their muscles to go all out on Saturday, February 9, at Sectionals.

Over 17 teams competed, including Columbus Beechcroft, Columbus Bishop Hartley, and Columbus School for Girls. This meet places individual qualifiers who will continue to districts in the next round of postseason.

Some important swims helped Academy accrue team points. in the meet. District qualifiers were Sammie Kass’19 winning the 100-free with a time of 55.56 seconds, Alexandria Butnariu’22 getting third in the 200-free with a time of 2:02.64, and Lauren Klinefelter’22 getting sixth in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:01.04.

Academy placed 1st in its section with 244 points, compared to CSG’s 2nd place at 217 points.

Next week, the AquaVikes have the districts, the penultimate round in the tournament, on Thursday, February 14, at OSU. This will be a big meet with everyone looking to set personal records.
