The Columbus Academy suffered a disappointing loss on Saturday, February 2 in the regional team tournament.
Seeded eleventh going into the tournament, the Vikes were the underdogs against sixth-seeded West Muskingum.
The Vikings and the Tornados did not match up well in weight classes, as all but 4 matches led to forfeits. Due to this, Academy fell into a hole early, as 7 of the 10 forfeits gave points to West Muskingum.
In the 4 matches which were contested, 2 went to the Vikes. Sophomores Chris Sugar and Keir Gorosope both took home victories by pin, but the deficit brought on by the forfeits was too much to overcome. The Vikings ultimately fell 52-30.
This loss does not end the season for Academy. The Vikes return to the mat on February 6 against Bloom Carroll, Grandview Heights, and Marion Franklin for Senior Night at 5:30.
