While we were on Winter Break, the Viking’s swim squad wasn’t resting, with triumphs over Olentangy Berlin on Saturday, December 15, and Granville on Thursday, December 20, and Dover on Saturday, January 5.

The AquaVikes began the new year with a bang, starting on Thursday, January 10 with the Senior Night meet against Columbus Bishop Hartley, Madison Christian School, and the Wellington School. This was an exciting meet for Academy’s 7 seniors, with coach Craig Yakscoe honoring Sarah Cabre, Abigail Fisher, Sammie Kass, Inji Kang, Molly Milbourne, Callista Popp, and Jordan Skilken for the endless time and dedication they have poured into the sport. Academy coasted through the competition, winning over all other teams with a first place of 224 points and a second place:158.

The girls competed on Saturday, January 12, at the annual Northeast Classic meet in Canton. This competition is the final culmination of the year’s work, with only the best swimmers from 48 schools across Northeast Ohio going. In the 100 Free, Kass swam an excellent 54.07 to get 11th place, and the 200 Medley Relay compiled of Alexandra Butnariu’22, Annalise Grammel’20, Inji Kang’19, and Abby Yakam’20, all worked to get 14th, helping Academy secure a solid 14th place.

Coming off these successes, the Vikings have the Viking Invite at 4:30 on Friday, January 18, and a huge meet against St. Charles, Olentangy Orange, and Olentangy Berlin on Saturday, January 19.
