The Columbus Academy wrestling team improved its record over the past two weeks, racking up wins over St. Charles, Beechcroft, Fredericktown, and Centerburg.
The Vikes opened up Winter Break with a dual match against St. Charles and Beechcroft on Thursday, December 20th, taking home the victory in both. Academy cruised to a win over the Cardinals by a score of 30-6, accompanied by a 30-12 blowout of the Cougars.
The Vikings competed at Groveport Madison for the Cruiser Invitational on Saturday, January 5. Several wrestlers turned in standout performances, with 3rd place finishes from senior Thomas Jones in the 170 weight class and sophomores Keir Gorospe and Chris Sugar at 126 and 138, respectively. Cole Duffy’19, Eric Menq’19, and Matt Comisar’22 also placed in their respective weight classes.
Academy trekked to Centerburg on Wednesday, January 9, to take on the Trojans and Fredericktown. Centerburg put up a good fight, but the Vikes pulled out a 36-31 victory. Meanwhile, the Vikings easily topped Fredericktown, 45-6.
The Vikes’ next home meet is on Tuesday, January 15 at 5:30, against Bishop Watterson, Liberty Union, and Linden McKinley. CA then hosts Beechcroft, Columbus East, Hilliard Darby, Marion Franklin, and Northland for the Kevin Michael Invitational on Saturday, January 19.
