Academy’s field hockey girls have advanced to the state semi-finals after conquering Bexley and Bishop Watterson in the final two rounds of districts.

The Vikes played their last home game of the season against the rival Lions on Tuesday, October 23. Echoing its regular season faceoff, CA pummeled Bexley, going all-out on offense in order to win 12-0. Contributing to this win were Jenny L’Hommedieu’19 and Regan Cornelius’21 with 3 goals, Charlotte Adams’21 with 2 goals, and one by Callista Popp’19, Avie Smith’19, Sarah Klingerman’21 and Sydney Hill’19. This was also Hill’s first goal in her high school career, as she is normally a defender.

With one final victory against the Lions, the Vikings advanced to the district finals on Saturday, October 27, facing Bishop Watterson at Olentangy Liberty. Kiersten Thomassey’20 scored Academy’s only goal of the game during the first half, and instead of going for more offensive opportunities, the squad maintained the score for the rest of the game. With this 1-0 victory, the Vikes won the district title for the second time in a row.

Our girls advance to the state final four with trophy in hand. The Vikings first face Ursuline Academy in the state semifinals on Friday, November 2, and if they win, go on to play the winner of Hudson and Thomas Worthington on Saturday, November 3. Both matches will be held at Upper Arlington High School.
