Seeded second in the Central #2 district, the Vikes were pitted against the 11th-seeded Barons of Buckeye Valley at 3:00 PM on Saturday afternoon, October 20, on Hondros Field. With rights to a district semifinal appearance on the line, Academy’s squad delivered throughout the entire 80 minutes as they came away with a validating 6-0 victory.
The Vikings came out with something to prove from the opening whistle, netting goal after goal against the Barons. Leach’s group held possession for the overwhelming majority of the match, with little shots on Academy’s side as a result. The widespread scoring was in debt to goals from Elias Marquez’20 and the senior trio of Tyler Schlonsky, David Barren and Colin Sullivan.
The “survive and advance” mentality was thrown out the window from the opening kickoff, and this dominant effort sets the Vikings up to host the 7th-seeded Bears of Olentangy Berlin on Wednesday, October 24, at 7:00 PM.
