As the Academy girls field hockey team winds down its regular season, it has received great news. The Vikings are nationally ranked for their outstanding season performance. In addition, the Vikes are ranked first in their district after a marvelous win streak of 16 games, undefeated for the entire season. Not only that, but the Vikings only let up one goal in those 16 games, creating an admirable 107-1 score margin.

Our girls finished up their last away game when they hit the road to rival Bexley on Monday, October 8. Academy slammed the Lions, forcing its way to the goal with an incredible offense and impassable defense. The Vikes won 5-0, with Avie Smith’19, Kiersten Thomassey’20, and sophomores Regan Cornelius and Sarah Klingerman (2) each putting CA on the board.

The final regular season game for the Vikings was also their Senior Night, held on Wednesday, October 10. Facing New Albany, CA showed no mercy, as Callista Popp’19 and Charlotte Adams’21 each quickly scored within the first 15 minutes of play. Academy continued to take a lot of shots on goal and keep play on the Eagles’ side, before an incredible shot off the crossbar went in before the half ended. The Vikes used this energy to finish the game 10-0, with goals scored by Popp (2), Adams (3), Mercedes Crestanello’19 (2), Carolyn Bowman’19, Smith, and Klingerman.

Following the game, CA honored its 8 seniors: Bowman, Crestanello,  Sydney Hill,  Lexi Leader, Jenny L’Hommedieu, Samantha Kass,  Popp, and Smith, all of whom have been playing on the varsity squad for 4 years, making the class of 2019 a field powerhouse.

Academy starts its postseason run on Wednesday, October 17, at home when it faces 18 seed Olentangy Berlin.
