The tremendous season for the Columbus Academy girls tennis team continued this week with the Vikes picking up two big victories, including one over a top 5 Division 1 team.
Our Vikes outlasted Olentangy Liberty 4-1 on Wednesday, September 26, and proved they can compete against the best. At first singles, sophomore Sydni Ratliff completed an amazing comeback over a top player in the state. Ratliff fought off a few set points and eventually took the match 7-6, 6-3. The entire team fed off of this momentum and secured a win over a very strong Liberty team.
On Friday, September 28, the Vikes took on Grandview Heights, an MSL opponent. CA inserted a lot of fresh varsity faces in this match and ran away with a quick victory. Academy won 5-0, and only dropped four games on all five courts in total.
The Vikes look to bring this momentum into next week when the postseason officially begins, with sectionals on Thursday, October 4, and Saturday, October 6, at home and CSG, respectively.
Academy has a huge match next week to close out its regular season campaign. The Vikings will travel to New Albany on Wednesday, October 3 to prove once again who the top team in Columbus is.
