The boys from Hondros have been anything but unstoppable this month. Match after match, the squad only seems to be gaining momentum, and this past week was no exception.

On Wednesday night, September 26, the Vikings hosted the rivaled Bexley Lions in one of their most hyped matches of this season. The group did not disappoint, making this Senior Night one to remember. Jacob Beck’19 led off with a stellar rebound goal (his first of the season) in the first half, and Tyler Schlonsky’19 responded with a goal of his own in the second half to cap off this 2-1 victory. This shutout came as a statement win for the group and only furthered its rankings in the Mid-State League.

The Vikes deviated from league play on Saturday night, September 29, when they traveled to Lancaster High  to take on the Golden Gales. Academy showed no mercy against the Division 1 squad as they shut out the Gales, 3-0. Elias Marquez’20 scored his first goal of the season, and the consistently strong senior duo of Schlonsky and David Barren each contributed a goal of their own.

This week, the boys head to Grandview Heights on Tuesday, October 2, to challenge the Bobcats for the first time this season. The road stretch continues on Saturday, October 6, as the Vikes challenge the Watkins Memorial Warriors, another Division 1 crew.

With an 8-2-1 record now to show, the Viking boys soccer squad has become the team to beat.
