“Lilly Was Here” by Laurie Clements. (laurieclements.com)
Academy’s first art exhibit of the year is on display in the Morris Hall gallery, featuring paintings by local artist Laurie Clements P’02 and ’05. Former Middle School art teacher Scott Neal arranged the exhibit.
Art teacher Pedro Mena said, “We decided as a department that Ms. Clements’ work would be a great exhibit to welcome in the new school year. A number of Ms. Clements’ art depicts the natural landscapes in central Ohio.”
Ms. Clements paints large landscapes, often using a wide range of colors. Much of her work focuses on nature, but not all of it does. For example, one of the pieces in the exhibit is of sailboats moored in a harbor at sunset. Some of the paintings are a diptych, meaning that there are two separate canvasses that make up the same picture when placed next to each other.
Mr. Mena hopes our community will stop by the gallery to look a little closer and pull a story from what they see.
